How to Make a Deer Mini Pinata

One of the things I treasure most about living in Kelowna, BC, is how closely nature weaves itself into everyday life. Whether you're hiking the nearby mountains or simply strolling through the quieter corners of the city, there's always a chance you'll spot a deer gently passing by. Those moments,  soft, magical, and quietly grounding  inspired this Mini Pinata!

So today, I’m sharing a little project that’s close to my heart: a Deer Mini Piñata, inspired by Kelowna’s woodland charm and the many forest friends I’ve spotted along the way. Whether you’re planning a forest-themed celebration, decorating a child’s room, or simply love beautiful things made by hand, this one is for you.

Materials You'll Need

  • Deer piñata template (digital or kit)

  • White and brown crepe paper

  • Hot glue gun or craft glue

  • Scissors

  • Circle paper punch (or just trim by hand)

  • Brown cardstock (for the ears)

  • Black cardstock (for the eyes and nose)

  • Small wooden sticks (for the antlers)

How to Make It

  1. Build your base
Assemble the piñata structure using your template. Make sure to leave a trap door unglued,  this will be where the treats go!

  2. Add texture with crepe
Start from the bottom, layering strips of brown crepe paper upward. Leave the face and neck uncovered for now. Then, switch to white crepe paper to gently layer the neck and face.

  3. Add facial features
Use black cardstock to cut and glue the eyes and nose into place. Cut two small ears from brown cardstock and attach them just above the eyes.

  4. Craft the antlers
Take your small wooden sticks and glue them carefully at the top of the head to resemble antlers. You could even paint or wrap them in twine for a rustic finish.
  5. Fill it!
Fill with sweets, confetti, or tiny notes.
